Say hello to our board . . . 

Alongside our board (who you can get to know below), we also have an executive team and lots of other clever people working throughout our business. When you choose to work with us, you'll find experts among our senior management, technical and commercial teams including numerous Chemists, Microbiologists and Qualified Persons (QPs) with decades worth of skillls in a range of disciplines relating to pharmaceutical development and manufacturing i.e. development, sterile fill/finish, aseptic processing, quality assurance and production.

Non-Executive Chair

The one with the gong . . .

A successful entrepreneur, Fiona is a leading business figure in North East England and has enjoyed an extensive 25-year career in the pharmaceutical industry. Fiona is a non-exec chair at SCM Pharma, which she self-funded and set-up in 2004. Today, her role involves supporting the board on matters relating to strategy and vision.

Committed to supporting the local knowledge economy, Fiona is a former David Goldman Visiting Professor of Business Innovation at the Newcastle University Business School and is also a Fellow at the London School of Pharmacy.

She is a founder at angel investment firm Gabriel Investors and is also on the strategic advisory board of BioNow, which focuses on developing the biomedical industry in the North of England across private companies, universities and NHS organisations.

Having lectured at universities across the UK over the last 15 years, Fiona has actively encouraged young women to consider careers in science and achieve in traditionally male-dominated industries.

In 2010, she was awarded with an OBE following the unveiling of the Queen's annual Birthday Honours List for services to business in the North East. 

We're pretty proud of her for that . . . 


Adam Sims

The one with an eye on growth . . . 

Adam Sims joined the SCM Pharma board in 2011 after two decades in the global pharmaceutical and chemical sector.

Working closely with the executive team, he plays an advisory role in SCM Pharma’s ongoing expansion plans and was initially attracted to the company by its impressive technology and impressive growth.

Before joining, he spent seven years at Aesica in senior commercial and finance roles. He also has significant business experience in the manufacturing sector, successfully delivering strategic and operational growth targets.

Adam is also the Chair of the Blyth Valley Business Forum and the Vice Chairman of the Northumberland Business Network. 

He doesn't do as much sitting on chairs while he's at SCM though . . .


Grant Harley

Corporate Services Director & General Manager

Working across every level of the organisation, Grant is currently our General Manager and oversees all aspects of the business including finance, operations, HR, IT and legal. His aim is to create an environment that allows the company to perform to its maximum every day, safely.

A Chartered Management accountant (CIMA), he specialises in management and driving performance. During his career, he has worked with private businesses, NHS Trusts and professional sports clubs, helping change culture to achieve performance targets.

An ex Royal Navy Aircrew Officer (flying helicopters!), Grant has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for around 15 years including roles with ChiRex and Piramal Healthcare UK. Away from SCM, he is a UEFA qualified coach and works with the Foundation and Youth Development goalkeepers at Newcastle United’s Academy. 


Mark Edwards

Quality Assurance Director and Qualified Person (QP)

The one who knows quality when he sees it . . . 

Senior quality professional Mark Edwards manages the QC function at SCM Pharma and is responsible for quality across the organisation’s two sites.

Highly-experienced, Mark has spent over 30 years in the global pharmaceutical and biotech industry having worked with the likes of Merck, Abbot and Fujifilm. Not that we're name dropping.

He has extensive knowledge of quality systems, a variety of different sterile dosage forms, production management and the undertaking of the preparation for pre-approval inspections and other regulatory authorities.

A QP since 1992, Mark has undertaken a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Pharmaceutical studies at Brighton University. Mark is also a graduate of the Society of Biology specialising in Microbiology from the North East Surrey College of Technology and a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences from Paddington College, London. 

Phew, he's pretty clever really . . .
